About Surround Air Purifiers
About Surround AirAs a division of Indoor Purification Systems, Inc, Surround Air has been in business since 1998. A 10,000 square foot warehouse and office complex is where the headquarters are located. Surround Air air purifiers are developed using clinical testing labs to verify their effectiveness and safety. They strive to develop new products that revolutionize the frontier of indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions. What Air Cleaning Technologies Does Surround Air Utilize?Surround Air air purifiers utilize multiple air purification technologies designed to complement each other. Anti-Bacterial Pre-Filter: This is the first line of purification that air passes through. More pores are available in the activated carbon and HEPA air filters for the harder-to-remove pollutants because the pre-filter preserves the life of other filters. Helps prevent bacteria from reproducing and recirculating into the air by destroying them. Activated Carbon Air Filter: After the pre-filter is the activated carbon filter. Chemicals, gases, odors and cigarette smoke are trapped the best by carbon filers. Other filters cannot remove the odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and chemicals that an activated carbon filter can according to the Penn State Department of Aerobiological researchers. A vast system of pores of molecular size make up an activated carbon air filter. They form a strong chemical bond/attraction to odorous, gaseous and liquid contaminants because they are highly absorbent. True HEPA Air Filter: A thick layer of HEPA filtration is situated after the pre-filter and activated carbon filter. As verified through strict testing procedures, true HEPA filters remove 99.97% of particles at 0.3 microns in size. For solid particles like dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, ragweed and dust mites, HEPA filters are considered the most effective type of air filter. They are recommended by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Germicidal Ultraviolet Light: Directly after the HEPA filter is a UV lamp. Micro-organisms such as viruses, bacteria, germs and fungi that cannot be captured by filters are destroyed by ultraviolet light. They are used in the medical field to prevent the spread of illness and disease by sanitizing rooms and equipment. The UV lamp in a Surround Air air purifier is positioned the way it is to effectively sanitize the HEPA filter as well. They are recommended by the Center for Disease Control for the destruction of biological pollutants. Sanitizer: Located just above the UV lamp is an ozone sanitizer that releases ozone into the air if turned on. If not desired or needed, this function can be turned off and is disabled by default. There are low, medium and high settings for ozone output if this function is activated. Air Ionizer: Just inside the air outlet is an ionizer that circulates air-cleaning negative ions into the air. Bacteria, smoke and allergens are effectively removed from the air by the ionizer. Ions are circulated throughout the room, cleaning areas the filter cannot reach. Also, smaller particles conglomerate into larger particles that the HEPA filter can eliminate. There are relatively no side effects when negative ions are used according to Columbia University researchers. No ozone is produced as a byproduct. Electrostatic Dust Collector: Washable electrostatically-charged dust collector plates trap particles and pollutants like a magnet and can simply be wiped clean when dirty. Photocatalytic Oxidation (TiO2): Chemicals, bacteria and odors are effectively reduced by the photocatalytic oxidation filter. It is coated with titanium oxide which creates air-sanitizing super-oxide ions when it reacts with UV rays. Surround Air Air CleanersSurround Air MT2000 Air Purifier: For areas up to 400 square feet.
