O2: The Natural Approach to Healthy & Beautiful

The idea of using oxygen as a supplement always draws a combination of confused looks and blank stares. Most people take oxygen for granted. Others don't understand how anyone could isolate additional oxygen or improve the quality of something that they cannot even see. The fact is oxygen is everywhere.  But unless we live in an Eden-like oasis surrounded by pure uncontaminated air, the reality is that the oxygen we're surrounded by is less than ideal.

What the Experts Are Saying

Oxygen is not only something we breathe, but it's something that's in constant contact with the largest organ in our body - our skin. High doses of oxygen can kill viruses, amoebas, parasites; additionally fungi and bacteria are unable to live in high oxygen environments. There are also studies being held to see the effects of high doses of oxygen to treat cancer.  Ultimately, oxygen is a mineral and as two-time Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Linus Pauling stated, "You can trace every sickness...and every ailment to a mineral deficiency."

Dr. Arthur Guyton would concur. Author of The Textbook of Medical Physiology, he states that "All chronic pain, suffering, and diseases are caused by a lack of oxygen at the cell level."  And while claims to cure AIDS through oxygen are far from substantiated, the fact is that health care advisers across the board agree that an intake of oxygen is good for the body.

The idea of oxygen being good for you may not be all that new. Unless you've been coasting the intergalactic waves for the last ten years, you've definitely heard rants and raves about how important it is to drink bucket full servings of water.  But if you stop and think what water is made of, it then starts making sense why the more base element (oxygen) is the next natural go-to for wellness.  And while not everyone suffers from serious illness as described above, we can all benefit from a little fresh air

Get Beautiful

All living things need oxygen, and the skin is no exception. Skin is a living thing and largest organ of the body.  Our skin uses oxygen to keep rejuvenated, nourished and to help clean, purify and revitalize its appearance. The trick is finding the right way to harness a natural free element that's already around you.

There are two ways to deliver oxygen to your face. The first is an oxygen facial.  For about $500 a treatment, you can get oxygen blasted directly at your face. This is a favorite of Madonna, who loves it so much that she dropped $7,000 to have her own unit at home. Oxygen calms inflammation, treats acne, kills bacteria, drives antioxidants and vitamins into the skin, and make your skin younger looking by providing oxygen to the skin cells. The second way is the hype of beauty products that claim to tote O2 in their product. Oxygen is a gas. There is no way to put that into a cream, keep it there, then have it released when it hits your skin. Even if creams did provide some extra oxygen to the skin, the effects would last only minutes at best.

But cost conscious beauty whizzes have wisened up to the smart cost-effective way to get a similar treatment for far less.  The buzz has already been hovering around the idea of using high quality air filters, such as Blueair Air Purifiers, Austin Air Air Filters, and IQAir Air Cleaners. These elite top of the line brands are the go-to gadget for the dressing rooms of any beauty maven, regardless of whether she's a natural beauty or a glamazon.  The air purifiers filter the air to create an optimal clean air environment rich with pure O2.  For added benefit, regardless of beauty objectives, it's advised to have one in your room while you sleep.  With the average person sleeping for about 6 hours a night, you're guaranteed a long fresh O2 session by the time you wake up.

Get Healthy

More and more people are using oxygen therapy outside the hospital, allowing them to lead active and productive lives. People with asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, occupational lung disease, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis, and even congestive heart failure are increasingly looking toward in-home oxygen therapy through the use of air purifiers. However this growing trend isn't just a lifestyle change among a minority - even major hospitals and private clinics now offer oxygen therapy. And while the FDA hasn't signed off on this yet, they're not discrediting it either. For them, more studies still need to be conducted. However, the fact that most insurance companies now cover oxygen (O2) therapy and even air cleaner units, shows the growing acceptance of O2 therapy.

While the verdict is still out on whether high doses of fresh clean O2 have any notable effects on diseases, the fact remains that an injection of oxygen, or being in an high pure air environment, is good for our health.  Studies now show that oxygenation of the blood can also help reduce the impact of chronic fatigue. Oxygen, after all, has always been recognized and proven as having properties that improve and quicken the body's natural healing processes. The question however, has been how do you saturate the cells with enough O2.

One option, albeit not the most efficient, has always been exercise.  The problem is that for sufferers of chronic fatigue, exercise is an almost impossible option to consider. The next solution is to produce a fresh air environment through funneling filtered air. While the amount of oxygen in your skin depends markedly on your age and health, you can definitely push the odds in your favor through air cleaners.  Having a history of smoking or lung disease, heart disease, or anemia will considerably decrease the amount of oxygen in your skin.

Whether you're in it for health or for beauty, the important thing to remember that high doses of fresh clean air is not to be mistaken as a topical treatment.  The fact is, especially with air cleaners is that you're ultimately breathing this air in - fresh O2 inhaled with each breath is ultimately what your body needs the most of.
