Poor indoor air quality is considered a nationwide epidemic, and the EPA has
issued statements noting the health effects of contaminated air. Smoke,
allergens, and microbes can cause irreparable damage to the respiratory system,
and long-term exposure to such contaminants can also cause cancer and
cardiovascular problems.
In order to address these air quality issues, Surround Air has designed the
Multi-Tech S4000 Air Purifier - an advanced air purifier utilizing six of
the most effective air purification technologies: HEPA, activated carbon,
ionization, Photocatalysis, and UV sterilization. According to government
agencies such as the CDC and Department of Homeland Security, HEPA filtration
offers the most protection against particulates. However, to extend the life
of the other filters, the S4000 begins the purification process with an
anti-bacterial pre-filter to remove larger particles. The HEPA filter then
removes 99.97% of particulates up to 0.3 microns, and the air is moved through
an activated carbon filter where odors and chemicals are trapped. The
photocatalyst filter oxidizes any remaining chemicals, bacteria, and odors, and
the two UV lamps destroy microorganisms. As an extra step to ensure clean air,
the S4000 has an ionizer which safely disperses negative ions to seek out and
remove particles.
The S4000 also boasts other unique features such as a timer and independent
Ion and UV control, and an ultra-quiet fan with 175 CFM for increased
airflow. In fact, in independent studies conducted by the AHAM, the Surround Air
S4000 air purifier outperformed more than 80% of all air purifier models tested
in terms of dust removal.

Pre-Filter: The air first enters the
pre-filter, where the largest particles are trapped.

High-Efficiency HEPA Filter: The most
effective type of air filter. Dust, allergens, and
other solid particles (including bacteria) are trapped.

Activated Carbon Filter: The best
type of air filter for trapping chemicals, gases, odors, and
cigarette smoke.

Photocatalytic Oxidation Filter: This
is coated with titanium dioxide, which produces highly
reactive ions that attach to chemical molecules, bacteria,
and odor-causing coupounds.

Germicidal UV Lamp: The most effective way to
destroy micro-organisms, such as germs, viruses, fungi (such as
mold) and bacteria. This also destroys micro-organisms, including
those that are trapped by the HEPA air filter, preventing them from
reproducing and recirculating through the room.

Safe and Effective Ionizer: Circulates
trillions of negative ions to neutralize floating pollutants
throughout the room. A Journal of Hygiene study found
negative ions to improve efficiency of filter units, and multiple
studies (including those by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture) have
found ionizers to be highly effective against dust, bacteria, etc.
Finally, the S4000's ionizer is proven to be safe, producing
virtually no ozone whatsoever.

Recommendations:
The U.S. Government recommends technologies used in
the Multi-Tech S4000 air purifier.
U.S. Centers of Disease Control (CDC) recommends air purifiers
with both HEPA Filter and UV Light. The CDC also recommend UV lights in
homeless shelters to prevent the spread of disease, particularly TB
(tuberculosis).
The Department of Homeland Security recommends HEPA air filters,
along with a pre-filter to preserve the life of the HEPA filter.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture found negative ions (ionizers)
to be highly effective against dust and bacteria in recent studies.
