Keep Your Asthma Under Control by Improving Your Indoor Air Quality

More than 20 million people in the United States suffer from asthma, and approximately 6 million of these asthma sufferers are children. Asthma causes over 4,000 deaths per year in America, and yet not much can be done to stop it. However, there are ways to improve an asthmatic's lifestyle without actually changing his or her habits. Many people don't know that the different pollutants and allergens found in one's indoor air are the cause of most asthmatic reactions. To prevent these triggers from making asthma symptoms worse, you should consider using an air purifier to keep your air clean and healthy.

Asthma Symptom Triggers

Poor indoor air quality can be detrimental to asthma sufferers, especially to those who are children. Children spend 80 percent of their day indoors, so the air they breathe inside needs to be cleaner than the air outside. Unfortunately, studies show that indoor air is normally five times worse than outdoor air. Vacuuming and dusting inside homes makes matters worse because these activities often spread more pollutants into the air rather than contain them. Without an air purifier to clean your air, many harmful and dangerous particles remain airborne and make breathing much more difficult.

Mold, which tends to grow in moist environments, is shown to have a direct correlation to the cleanliness of the air indoors. When there is too much moisture, the growth of mold spores increases and asthma attacks become more frequent. By reducing humidity levels of homes and schools to about 40 or 50%, you will see a dramatic decrease in mold spores as well as asthma symptoms. UV air purifiers are perfect for removing mold spores from your air. These air cleaners use intense heat to easily destroy mold and other biological contaminants in the air.

Dust mites and cockroaches are also responsible for provoking asthma symptoms. Even the cleanest of homes contain dust mites, which can easily be found in mattresses, pillows, carpets, upholstered furniture, bedcovers, clothes, stuffed toys and fabric and fabric-covered items. Cockroaches, on the other hand, are more visible but less irritating. However, their waste and their body parts can irritate asthma sufferers just as much as dust mites. By washing all mattresses, bed sheets, covers and stuffed toys in hot water weekly, you should be able to reduce the number of dust mites that appear in your home. To capture even more dust mites, a Sharp air purifier may be your best bet. The air purifiers made by Sharp feature HEPA filters that capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, meaning that the air cleaners can easily remove dust mites to leave you healthy, breathable air. These HEPA purifiers are also great because they can be used year round; a couple of Sharp purifiers feature a humidifier option, which helps asthma sufferers when the weather gets colder.

Other allergens such as pet dander and pollen also play a large part in irritating nasal passages and making breathing difficult for asthma sufferers. Hypoallergenic shampoo can help you reduce the amount of dander in your home, but nothing beats an IQAir air purifier when it comes to removing allergens and pollutants from the air. Featuring multiple stages of filtration, these air cleaners are the best of their kind. They are trusted by hospitals and medical laboratories worldwide for being able to remove almost 100% of the allergens, viruses and bacteria in your air. Without an air purifier that removes viruses, asthma sufferers become even more susceptible to deadly diseases, such as the swine flu and the influenza.

Smoke is single-handedly the deadliest contaminant that affects asthmatics. It is a well-known fact that smoking makes people cough and feel short of breath. The smoke irritates the airways, causing them to become swollen and filled with sticky mucus. Tobacco smoke damages the cilia found in the lungs so that they are unable to sweep dust and mucus out of the airways. This allows the pollutants to accumulate on the inner linings of the walls of the lungs and trigger an asthma attack. Not only does smoking harm the smoker, but it also harms those around him or her. Research shows that secondhand smoke is the main cause behind children developing asthma at young ages. Children breathe more quickly than adults, so their lungs receive more harmful chemicals and end up developing more slowly. By using an Airgle air purifier, you can reduce the amount of smoke in the air and keep your environment healthy and clean. Airgle air cleaners feature higher Clean Air Delivery Rates and boast a 12-step filtration system that can help you remove almost all pollutants from the air you breathe without irritating your lungs in the process!

Though asthma is a chronic illness that can never be completely healed, it can easily be tamed with the use of an air purifier!
